[RWD version 1 ] For this route we parked in Tinahely and followed the R749 out of the village to T02574 72527 where there is a track heading uphill and is marked on the East West Wicklow South Map and is part of the Tinahely marked way Loop Walk. This track seems recently developed and gives excellent access to Muskeagh Hill.

The track heading up Muskeagh Hill from the R749

The walking underfoot is pleasant and once out from the high hedgerows you will have beautiful views of the surrounding area - weather permitting of course! The summit of Muskeagh Hill won't take too long to reach and has some sort of aerial or antenna on it. The views from here are good however forest plantation is growing and the view will be somewhat obscured in the coming years - until it is "delightfully" clear-felled in the distant future :/

Watch out for the red arrows for the marked way of the Tinahely loop walk.

From the summit of Muskeagh Hill you will follow mostly tracks (all signposted - keep a good eye open) along the Tinahely way as far as T02166 74630. Here you will turn off to open hillside (a faint track does exist and is marked on the East West map) and for the summit of Ballycumber Hill, see below.

The faint track up the slope of Ballycumber Hill can be seen near the centre of the photo.

The ascent of Ballycumber Hill was wet underfoot but easy going. The summit is marked with a trig pillar and provides great views. Looking back the way we came, the view of Muskeagh Hill and beyond is stunning.

Our route from here took us NE and then East to the spotpoint called Garryhoe/Black Hill. Descending from here we briefly rejoined the Tinahely loop walk and took Mangan Lane road back into Tinahely. Overall great rambling around beautiful South Wicklow roads, lanes and minor hills.
